Weather in Hurghada: What Temperature to Expect Year-Round
Hurghada basks in a hot desert climate with sunshine on over 300 days of the year. That's one of the reasons it's become Egypt's most popular Red Sea resort — you can pretty much guarantee sun whenever you visit. But "sunny" doesn't always mean "scorching," and understanding how the temperature shifts across the seasons can help you pick the perfect time for your trip.

The Best Months to Visit
October to April — The Sweet Spot
This is peak season for good reason. Daytime temperatures hover between a comfortable 22°C and 30°C, the evenings are pleasantly cool, and there's barely a cloud in the sky. It's the ideal weather for desert safaris, day trips to Cairo and Luxor, and long afternoons on the beach without melting.
May & September — The Shoulder Months
If you don't mind the heat, these months offer a great balance: warm seas, fewer crowds, and lower prices. You'll still get plenty of sunshine and the sea is deliciously warm.
June to August — The Hot Summer
Daytime highs regularly push past 38°C. It's not for everyone, but the Red Sea turns into a warm bath (28–29°C), and many hotels slash their rates. If you do visit in summer, plan activities for the early morning or late afternoon and spend the midday hours in the pool or air conditioning.
Red Sea Water Temperature
One of Hurghada's biggest draws is that the sea never gets cold. Water temperatures range from a mild 21°C in winter to a balmy 29°C in summer, making it a genuine year-round destination for snorkelling, diving, and swimming. Even in January, a shorty wetsuit is more than enough for most people.
What to Pack Based on the Temperature
- Winter (Dec–Feb): T-shirts and shorts for the day, but bring a light jacket or jumper for cool desert evenings.
- Spring & Autumn (Mar–Apr, Oct–Nov): Light, breathable clothing. Perfect beach weather.
- Summer (Jun–Aug): Loose, light-coloured clothing, SPF 50+ sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, and a refillable water bottle — hydration is essential.
Does It Ever Rain in Hurghada?
Practically, no. Hurghada receives less than 25mm of rain per year, and most of that falls in brief, light showers during winter. You're unlikely to see a single drop during your holiday — it's one of the driest cities on the planet.

Whatever the temperature, there's always something incredible to do in Hurghada. In the cooler months, make the most of desert safaris and pharaonic day trips. In the summer, focus on the water — boat tours, snorkelling, and diving are at their best.
